The directional correlation between the first forbidden 1483 kev beta - group and the 344 kev E2 gamma -transition in the decay of 13-year Eu/sup 152/ was measured as a function of beta energy above 950 kev. The integral beta - gamma correlation data for beta energies above 950 kev can be fitted with a directional correlation function W( theta ) = I -- (0.379 plus or minus 0.004) cos/sup 2/ theta . The anisotropy is negative and is found to increase with beta -energy, its value is --D.416 plus or minus 0.012 at 1350 kev, the maximum energy at which measurements were made. The energy dependency of the anisotropy excludes the unique charactcr of the beta -transition. The observed energy dependence of the anisotropy is fitted with the V --A theory in the modified B/ sub ij/ approximation yielding two values of the matrix element ratio Y = (C/sub V//C/sub A/)( integral i alpha / integral B/sub ij/) approx equal 1.05 or 0.09. The former value of Y, however, reproduces closely the spectral shape recently observed for the 1483 kev beta -group. (auth)
