The different parameters (acidity, nitrate, ionic strength), affecting the extraction of nitrate solutions of Pu(IV) by organic dibutylphosphoric acid solutions in benzene was studied. A mechanism is proposed for the extraction, at constant ionic strength, which takes into account the formation of nitrate complexes of Pu(IV) in the aqueous phase.
