HIGH-TEMPERATURE SHORT-TIME CREEP OF GRAPHITE

Journal Article · · Trans. Met. Soc. AIME
OSTI ID:4136778

Constant-load tensile creep properties were determined at 3000 to 5300 deg F. Creep rates of 10/sup -7/ to 10/sup -3/ sec/sup -1/ were observed at stresses of 1600 to 4000 lb/sq in. The creep rate increased continuously with increasing temperature, and was lower when the stress was parallel to the grain rather than perpendicular. Elongations of 40% and density decreases of 18% were observed. Activation energies of 159 to 240 kcal/mole were obtained. (auth)
