PHOSPHORUS AND BICARBONATE EFFECTS ON Sr$sup 85$ ACCUMULATION BY BUSH BEANS

Journal Article · · Soil Sci. Soc. Am. Proc.
Several exploratory studies were made of possible phosphorus and bicarbonate effects on the accumulation of Sr/sup 85/ by bush beans. Without added bicarbonate, increasing the phosphorus increased the content of Sr/sup 85/ in roots but had little effect on that in the tops. With a 10/sup -2/M bicarbonate level, increasing the phosphorus resulted in a progressive decrease of Sr/sup 85/ in both roots and tops. In the absence of phosphorus from the nutrient solution, the content of Sr/sup 85/ in the roots increased markedly with the concentration of bicarbonate. (M.C.G.)
