Title: THE DEVELOPMENT OF A STATIC PRESSURE PROBE FOR THE INTERACTION REGION OF SHOCK WAVES AND BOUNDARY LAYERS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4135412

A cylindrical static pressure probe with an outside diameter of 0.016 inch and port diameters of 0.004 inch was developed for measuring static pressures in the interaction region of an oblique shockwave and a turbulent boundary layer at a free stream Mach number of 2.5. Several probe configurations with andd without boundary layer trips were calibrated in the boundary layer where the Mach number is variable and in a shock wave where the pressure gradients are much higher thand in the interaction region of interest. The best configuration consisted of a 14-degree included angle, cone cylinder with the two ports located 12 tube diameters from the upstream tip. This probe was calibrated in yaw and pitch, and it was used in a preliminary survey of the static pressures in the interaction region of a shock wave with a 30-degree wave angle and a turbulent boundary layer with a thickness of 0.085 inch. The results showed that the pressure gradient normal to the wall in and interaction region is appreciable. (auth)
