Citizens' initiatives in connection with nuclear power plants; Buergerinitiativen im Bereich von Kernkraftwerken

This report examines the coverage by the press in local and national mewspapers of citizens' initiatives in connection with nuclear power plants from 1970 until 1974. Nationally about 20,000 articles about nuclear energy were published. Only in a small fraction (all in all 123) the approach to this source of energy was critical and there was a mention of citizens' initiatives. The regional press in areas with concentrations of population made a clear statement in favour of nuclear power plants still in the design stage, in rural areas, however, the attitude was neutral or disapproving. Of all problems the siting question seems to be the central point of interest. (RW/LN)
