RADIOGRAPHIC SYSTEMS AND METHOD

An x-ray generator is described, which may be selectively operated in conventional radiographic systems or cineradiographic systems. A pulse-forming and -timing circuit for generating an essentially square voltage pulse is provided. A switching circuit built into the x-ray tube comprises an electric field-forming element that encircles the filament and, when the negative bias is applied, creates a negative field to prevent flow of electrons from filament to anode. The filament associated with the switching circuit produces a small focal spot of precisely controlled dimensions for use in cineradiography. A second filament in the same tube is separate from the switching means and selectively operable. It produces a large focal spot suitable for conventional radiography. (A.G.W.)
