Thermal Decomposition of Rare Earth Metal Oxalates. IV. Oxalates of Cerium and Thorium

Journal Article · · Zeitschrift fuer Anorganische und Allgemeine Chemie
The thermal decomposition of the hydrated oxalates of cerium(III) and thorium was studied by means of a Stanton thermobalance. The thermolysis pattern of cerium oxalate showed an anomalous behavior differing from that of other rare- earth metal oxalates. Constant weight levels corresponding to lower hydrates were not obtained. Several points of resemblances were noticed in the decomposition patterns of cerium oxalate and thorium oxalate. Formation of thorium oxalate monohydrate at 140 deg C, as reported, was observed during these studies.
