CRITICALLY SAFE MIXER-SETTLERS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4130516

A review of the most suitable types of mixer-settlers for processing concentrated solutions of fissionable materials is presented. The essential characteristics of the different types of extractors are compared. Critically safe design, efficiency prediction, and scaling-up methods are also considered. The horizontal slab type (stages assembled side by side) and turbine type (in- line assembly) mixer-settlers seem to be the most suitable as eversafe'' extractors. For ease of maintenance, the air pulsed mixer-settler should be one of the types to be considered. (auth)
