Emergency cooling system for a nuclear reactor (in German)

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4129895
An emergency cooling system for nuclear reactors is given. It consists of a storage tank under pressure from which the emergency coolant is pressed into the reactor core in the case of a drop of the reactor coolant pressure caused by, e.g., a pipe rupture in the primary cooling circuit. Due to non-return valves in the supply lines to the reactor pressure vessel, the neutron-absorbing emergency coolant can only flow in the direction of the reactor core. Pipes through the closure head to the pressure vessel and pipe coupling are, for safety reasons, designed in such a way that sideward displacements are possible. Part of the control rod leading pipes as well as of the hollow supports are designed as downward leading pipelines to the reactor core. (ORU/LH)
