An electiic cable with a polyethylene insulation of improved corona resistance is patented. The cable consists layers ot cross-linked polyethylene impregnated with a maphthenicbase hydrocarbon oil. Although polyethylene is soluble in cable oil, cross-linked polyethylene is not. The polyethylene may be in the form of a tape and may be cross-linked chemically or by irradiation. Layers of fibrous material ayers, and the entire cable may have in outer oil- impermeable layer. Manufacture of the cable and the physical properties of the cable are described. (M.P.G.)
