Concept of a control and shutdown rod for the pebble bed reactor with OTTO charging (in English German)

A control and shutdown rod has been designed and built following the specifications for a pebble bed reactor with OTTO charging. The rod is moved by a rotary spindle driven by an electric motor via an electromagnetically commutable gearing. The components located in the primary helium atmosphere are designed taking into accound the special difficulties arising in a pure helium atmosphere. The reliability and the safety of this control and shutdown rod are discussed. (orig.)
