Analytical research and development for the Whitney Programs. Automation and instrumentation. Computer automation of the Cary Model 17I spectrophotometer
In the area of automation and instrumentation, progress in the following studies is reported: computer automation of the Cary model 17I spectrophotometer; a new concept for monitoring the concentration of water in gases; on-line gas analysis for a gas circulation experiment; and count-rate-discriminator technique for measuring grain-boundary composition. In the area of analytical methodology and measurements, progress is reported in the following studies: separation of molecular species by radiation pressure; study of the vaporization of U(thd)$sub 4$, (thd = 2,2,6,6-tetramethylheptane-3,5-drone); study of the vaporization of U(C$sub 8$$H$$sub 8$$)$$sub 2$; determination of ethylenic unsaturation in polyimide resins; and, semimicrodetermination of hydroxyl and amino groups with pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA).
