Processing EBR-I NaK to produce a storable solid

Approximately 5500 gallons of fission product--contaminated liquid metal coolant (eutectic sodium--potassium alloy--NaK), was removed from the EBR-I reactor system, reacted with caustic solution to produce a solid 25 M potassium hydroxide--sodium hydroxide mixture suitable for storage at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratories RWMC. Considerations that went into the design and operation of the processing unit will be discussed. (auth)
