ENGINEERING TEST NUCLEAR RACTOR
The design of the Engineering Test Reactor. a research reactor having high thermal and fast neutron fiux facilities, is given. It is water-cooled and - moderated and uses uranium enriched to 90% U/sup 235/. although other fuels containing U/sup 233/ or Fu/sup 239/ may be used. The core comprises a multicellular array of fuel assemblies arranged in the form of a cross with a large central hole and several corner holes as irradiation facilities. Neutron fluxes of 5 to 6 7 x 10/sup 14/ (thermal) and 1.7 x 10/sup 15/ (epithermal) neutrons/cm/sup 2//sec are obtainable in the central hole with 2.3 to 3 x 10/sup 14/ (tbermal) and 9 x 10/sup 14/ (epithermal) neutrons/cm/sup 2//sec fluxes in the corner holes.
