DENSITIES OF LIQUID SOLUTIONS OF BISMUTH AND SULFUR. Technical Report No. XVIII

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4126365
Densities of liquid solutions of bismuth and sulfur were measured over the composition range from pure bismuth to 0.65 atom fraction sulfur and at temperatures from just above the liquid-solid equilibrium to 700 to 800 deg C. The molar volume of the melts was found to be a linear function of the atom fraction of sulfur; the partial molar volume of bismuth is 20.9 ml/g atom (equal to its molar volume) and that of sulfur (by extrapolation) 13 ml/g atom at 300 deg C. A speculation on the nature of the solutions is made. (auth)
