Shock-wave velocity measurements were made using a small T-shaped shock tube (30 mm M) with and without a solenoidal magnetic field on the expansion chamber. Energy was stored in a bank of the 5- mu f 15-kv capacitors. Air, argon, and helium were used for a test gas. The attenuation of the shock velocity along the expansion chamber was measured by a streak camera, and the results were compared with the one-dimensional blast wave theory. By the wave- speed photographs of reflected shock wave, measurements were made on the ratio of the speed of reflected shock wave to that of the incident one and the duration of the uniform flow region behind the shock front. Preliminary experiments show that the duration, which is between one and two microseconds over the whole length of the expansion chamber, increases when the magnetic field is applied. They also show that intensity of radiation from the hot gas behind a shock wave decreases in a magnetic field. (Nucl. Sci. Abstr. Japan, Vol. 2, No. 4)
