A METHOD OF DETERMINING TOTAL U-235 IN FLAT CONFIGURATIONS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4125251
A method for determining U/sup 235/, utilizing the 184-kev gamma from decay of U/sup 235/, is described. There are no interferring gamma's in this energy range from the decay of the other uranium isotopes. The method is applicable to all flat configurations providing the self-absorption does not exceed 40 to 50 %. A 2.5 x 2.5 x 0.001 in. foil of highly enriched uranium of known weight and isotopic content is used as a standard. Four series of counts are taken with a single-channel scintillation spectrometer with the window on the 184-kev peak and a window width of 4%. (W.D.M.)
