INTEGRATED CROSS SECTIONS FOR THE REACTIONS A$sup 40$$($$gamma$,p) AND A$sup 40$(*gamma,np)
The ( gamma ,p)and ( gamma ,np) reactions in Ar/sup 40/were re-examined with 34-Mev bremssirahlung by measuring the product chlorine radioactivities. Details of the sample preparation are given. Yields relative to C/sup 12/( gamma ,n) and Cu/sup 63/( gamma ,n) were determined by BETA counting. From additional measurements with a lead absorber in the beam, the following cross settions integrated to 33 Mev were deduced: (100 plus or minus 15) Mev. mb for ( gamma ,p)and (25 plus or minus 10) Mev . mb for ( gamma ,np). This excludes definitely the anomalously high cross section values previously reported. An approximate yield for the ( gamma ,2p) process is given. (auth)
