STATISTICAL FLUCTUATIONS OF ENERGY LEVELS: THE UNITARY ENSEMBLE

Journal Article · · Nuclear Physics (Netherlands) Divided into Nucl. Phys. A and Nucl. Phys. B
The next-nearest neighbor energy level spacing distribution for complex systems with non-time-reversalinvariant interactions is derived from the gaussian unitary ensemble in three dimensions and is compared to the similar result for the orthogonal ensemble. Since it was shown for other spacing distributions that low-dimensional results are within a few per cent of infinite-dimensional results in regions of significant probability, the threedimensional results developed probably have rather wide numerical validity.
