Angular distributions for the protons from the $sup 19$F(d,p)$sup 20$F reaction leading to the 0.655 MeV excited state of $sup 20$F have been measured at six deuteron energies from 1.20 to 2.20 MeV in steps of five degrees. An analysis of the data has been made using the DWBA theory. Correct peak position over the measured energy interval could be predicted when the depth of the real part of the deuteron optical potential was allowed to be energy-dependent. The average value of the spectroscopic factors deduced over the energy interval was found to be 0.68 +- 0.12 which is good agreement with the predictions of shell- model calculations based upon a $sup 16$O closed core.
