Influence of discharge-current fluctuations on the operation of a helium- neon laser utilizing coupled 3s$sub 2$-2p$sub 4$ and 3s$sub 2$-3p$sub 4$ transitions in neon

A calculation was made of the intensity of stimulated emission from a helium-neon laser emitting simultaneously due to two coupled 3s$sub 2$-2p$sub 4$ (lambda=0.63 $mu$) and 3s$sub 2$-3p$sub 4$ (lambda/subi/=3.39 $mu$) transitions. It was found that, under certain conditions, the emission of lambda/subi/=3.39 $mu$ could alter considerably (in particular, could reduce) the sensitivity of the intensity of visible radiation to discharge-current fluctuations. The theoretical conclusions were confirmed experimentally at low frequenices of the fluctuations of the current density. (AIP)
