An investigation was made of the dependence of the gain of helium-neon medium due to the 5s'1/2$sup 0$$sub 1$-4p'3/2$sub 2$ laser transition in Ne on the pressure in the gas mixture and on the discharge current in tubes of different internal diameters. Formulas were obtained for the calculation of the discharge parameters necessary for the attainment of maximum gain. (AIP)
