SOME CONSIDERATIONS ON THE RECENTLY FOUND EVIDENCE FOR A $pi$$lambda$ RESONANCE

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Letters
The predictions of the model for pion-hyperon interactions in the case of equal DELTA and SIGMA parities are examined in the light of evidence for a pi DELTA resonance in the K/sup -/ + p DELTA + pi + + pi /sup -/ reaction. The model predicts two resonant states (T = l and 2) for J =3/2. Since the T = 1 resonance is present in both the pi DELTA and pi channels, the branching ratio for the decay ofY* for pi SIGMA and pi DELTA states is calculated and found to be in qualitative agreement with experiment. The results predicted for the pi DELTA (T = 1) resonance also agrees with experiment. The possibility of other resonances are considered. The results suppent the assumption of equal DELTA - SIGMA parity and the assignment of spin 3/2 to the observed resonance. (D.L.C.)
