MAGNETIZATION PROCEDURE FOR LOW FIELD SETTINGS OF A SIX-GAP IRON BETA-RAY SPECTROMETER

The focusing properties of the Riso orange spectrometer were investigated through field measurements and the study of electron line shapes. Even after a careful demagnetization procedure, unsatisfactory field distributions were obtained at low energies in the wedge-shaped gaps. This effect can be eliminated if the demagnetization is followed by suitable premagnetization steps. (auth)
