Bis(tetramethylthiophene)ruthenium(0) and its Fe(CO){sub 4} adduct
- Univ. of Illinois, Urbana, IL (United States)
Reduction of [Ru({eta}{sup 5}-C{sub 4}S){sub 2}](OTf){sub 2} (C{sub 4}Me{sub 4}S is 2,3,4,5-tetramethylthiophene, OTf is CF{sub 3}SO{sub 3}{sup -}) at -78{degrees}C with 2 equiv of Cp{sub 2}Co gives Ru(C{sub 4}Me{sub 4}S){sub 2} (1), which is stable at <-20{degrees}C. DNMR studies suggest that 1 is fluxional as a result of the facile interconversion of {eta}{sup 5}- C{sub 4}Me{sub 4}S and {eta}{sup 4}-C{sub 4}Me{sub 4}S ligands. In contrast, (n{sup 5}-C{sub 4}Me{sub 4}S)Ru{r_brace}, prepared from 1, Fe-(CO){sub 5}, and Me{sub 3}NO is thermally stable and adopts a static structure. In the solid state, 1{lg_bullet}Fe(CO){sub 4} adopts a symmetric structure such that the two pairs of C=C groups are eclipsed. 16 refs., 1 fig.
