OSTI ID:4119794
A process for preparing fluoride compounds without the use of inorganic and organic catalysts is described. At least one organic fluoride compound is reacted with at least one nonfluorinated olefinically or acetylenically unsaturated organic compound with a molecular weight below 1000 at a pressure less than 1000 psig in the presence of gamma radiation. The solid reaction product is recovered. Ten examples are given. It was provided that when the organic fluoride connpound is trifluorochloroethylene the nonfluorinated compound is not a monomer having the general formula H/sub 2/C = CR/sub 1/R/sub 2/where R/ sub 1/ represents H or CH/sub 3/ and R/sub 2/ represents CR/sub 3/, Cl, OC = OCH/ sub 3/, COOCH/sub 3/, or COOC/sub 2/H/sub 5/, and that when the unsaturated organic compound is ethylene the fluoride compound is not a fluorinated methane containing one or more chlorine, bromine, or iodine atoms.
