RADIATION-INDUCED SOLID PROPELLANT DECOMPOSITION

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4118681

A research program is being conducted to study the mechanism of solid propellant combustion. The decomposition products of gamma-irradiated ammonium perchlorate were determined. A study of the reactions of ammonium perchlorate with organic compounds showed that ammonium perchlorate is an oxidizing agent only at temperatures above its decomposition point. The effects of electron irradiation on the burning rates and tensile strength of composite ammonium perchlorate solid propellants were determined. (D.L.C.)
