A FAST COINCIDENCE CIRCUIT

Journal Article · · Nucl. Instr. Methods
A coincidence circuit with a resolving time determined by the rise time of the input pulses is described. Two input pulses of opposite polarity are added and ttigger a tunnel diode, which is the fast component of the circuit. The positive output pulse from the tunnel diode and the negative output pulse from a conventional coincidence circuit are mixed in a second part of the circuit. A final output is registered only, if the input pulses are strictly coincident and the tunnel diode is not triggered. The circuit was tested with photomultiplier scintillators using a 450 Mev external proton beam. A coincidence resolving time (half width of coincidence curve measured at half height) of 1n sec was measured. (auth)
