Novel mechanisms for particle acceleration

Conference ·
OSTI ID:4118289
Intense relativistic electron beams (IREB) and lasers are considered as possible power sources for particle acceleration. IREB collective effect accelerators could lead to multi-GEV acceleration, but a method of controlling the velocity of the beam front, or charge neutralization, is needed. In principle, laser accelerators would work, but the maintenance of mechanical tolerances is difficult. Laser driven collective accelerators are also a possibility. (PMA)
