ON SPACE CHARGE NEUTRALIZATION BY POSITIVE IONS IN LOW-PRESSURE THERMIONIC CONVERTERS

Journal Article · · Brit. J. Appl. Phys.
The effect of a uniform distribution of ions on the space charge between the electrodes of a thermionic converter under collision-free conditions is evaluated. It is shown that the quantity gamma = e(kT/m)/sup 1/2/n/sub i//j, where n/sub i/ is the ion co ncentration and j is the electric current density, must exceed at least 0.1 for the space charge to be appreciably reduced.
