ION EXCHANGE AND SOLVENT EXTRACTION STUDIES WITH MOLTEN NITRATES

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4117446
Cation exchange isotherms show that the Linde zeolite 4A favors thallium (I) and silver over sodium, when exchange occurs from molten nitrates. The zeolite occludes 9 to 10 molecules of NaNO/sub 3/ and AgNO/sub 3/ per unit cell, but no TINO/sub 3/. The distribution of mercury chloride tracer between molten polyphenyl and K: Li nitrate eutectics was studied as a function of chloride concentration and temperature. Anionic mercury chloride complexes were found in the salt melt. (auth)
