EXTRACTION OF URANIUM FROM AQUEOUS NITRIC ACID SOLUTION BY SOME TWENTY ORGANOPHOSPHORUS COMPOUNDS

Journal Article · · Tech. Rept. Eng. Res. Inst., Kyoto Univ.
OSTI ID:4117274
The extraction ability of ten trialkyl phosphates, five dialkyl hydrogen phosphonates, three dialkyl alkyl phosphonates, three alkyl dialkyl phosphinates, and two trialkyl phosphine oxides for uranyl nitrate is reported. Methods of preparation and some of their basic properties are also reported. The extraction ability of organophosphorus compounds with only n-butyl groups increases in the following sequence: dialkyl hydrogen phosphonate < trialkyl phosphate < dialkyl alkyl phosphonate < alkyl dialkyl phosphinate < trialkyl phosphine oxide. These effects are attributable to the electronic configuration of organophosphorus compounds. As to the effect of size of alkyl groups, among trialkyl phosphates and dialkyl hydrogen phosphonates the extraction ability increases as the number of carbon atoms in alkyl groups becomes larger and by branching of carbon chain, especially at alpha position carbon in them.
