RADIATIVE CORRECTIONS TO COMPTON SCATTERING. BREMSSTRAHLUNG AND PAIR PRODUCTION AT HIGH ENERGIES

Radiative corrections to the total cross section for Compton scattering of unpolarized, high-energy photons on electrons are computed to first order in the fine-structure constant, alpha . A differential and a total cross section of the same order were obtained for high-energy double Compton scattering in which one of the emitted photons has an energy small compared to the energy of the incident photon in the center-of-mass system. First order in alpha corrections to the bremsstrahlung and pair production energy spectra were calculated in the Weizsacker-Williams approximation. Bremsstrahlung and pair production with the emission of an additional photon are included, the energy of the additional photon being much smaller than the energy of the primary particle. The effect of these corrections on the pair production total cross section is also evaluated. Numerical results are given. (auth)
