METHODS OF FLUX ITERATION FOR SOLUTION OF NEUTRON DIFFUSION PROBLEMS IN r-/ THETA/ GEOMETRY

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4116364
In connection with a project request that r- theta capability be added to KARE, an investigation was made to determine what method shoaid be used for flux iteration. Azimuthal SLOR (successive line overrelaxation, with the lines being curves of constant radius) is compared with radial SLOR and ADI (alternating-direction-implicit) iteration methods. It is concluded that azimuthal SLOR should converge several times faster than the other two methods. Difference equation coefficients derived for neutron diffusion in r- theta geometry by a variational method are compared with the coefficients derived by the standard method and used in CURE. (auth)
