An ultrasonic grain size test apparatus is described for measuring the grain size of individual uranium cores. The apparatus uses digital techniques and provides a readout of finest, averages, and variation in grain size. Through correlations of test data with metallographic examiation, tentative limits are defined for large, small, and variation in grain sizs. Operation and peformance of the testing apparatus are discussed. (C,J.G.)
