Erosion resistant tungsten coatings for rocket nozzle applications

An account is given of the results of work to develop CVD tungsten coated, graphite rocket nozzle inserts, by deposition from the fluoride and the chloride. It has been shown that the ''chloride'' route, which hitherto has not been fully evaluated for this purpose, is equally capable of producing heavy tungsten coatings of high quality. A comparison is made of the quality and performance of products obtained by the two methods. (auth)
