A method for producing UC and PuC--UC is described that consists of reacting uranium oxide or uranium oxide mixed with plutonium oxide with a stoichiometric proportion of carbon at 1500 deg C at less than 200 mu Hg pressure over the reactants and continuously removing the gaseous products. The oxide mixture of Pu and U was obtained by coprecipitation of the oxalate form (R.E.U.)
