QUARTERLY TECHNICAL PROGRESS REPORT FOR PERIOD ENDING MARCH 31, 1959

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4113015
Additional data were obtained on sintered UO/sub 2/ pellet assemblies which were hot isostatically pressed. The effects of composition and particle size on the oxygen and nitrogen contents of sintered Y-U alloys were investigated. Variation of Vickers hardness values of Y-U alloys with temperature was determined. Thermal cycling, thermal expansion, and corrosion tests were performed on Y-U alloys. Samples of UO/sub 2/-Y/sub 2/O/sub 3/, UO/sub 2/-Nb/sub 2/O5, and UO/sub 2/-CeO/sub 2/ were prepared for thermal conductivity tests. Results of measurements on UO/sub 2/- Y/sub 2/O/sub 3/ samples are presented. The preparation of ThO/sub 2/- UO/sub 2/ and ThO/sub 2/ - UO/sub 2/ - Y/sub 2/O/ sub 3/ for thermal co nductivity tests are reported. (W.L.H.)
