A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF ZIRCALOY 2 AND ZIRCALOY 3

The comparative properties of Zircaloy-2 and Zircaloy3 ingots were determined at the high and low oxygen levels possible in normal production. The tensile properties were measured at room temperature, 250 deg C, and 350 deg C. Corrosion was studied in steam at 750 deg F and 1500 psi. The corrosion resistance of Zircaloy-3 was found to be low, although it could be increased by thermal treatment. (D.L.C.)
