Colour Centres in Sodium Cyanamide

Irradiation of pellets of sodium cyanamide at room temperature with ultraviolet light from a high-pressure mercury lamp or with 2-Mev electrons resulted in the formation of a number of absorption bands. Results of electron spin resonance measurements indicated that the bands were due to color centers of the F-center type. It is postulated that they originate from photochemical decomposition.
