A theory of elastic response of a thin spherical shell to the axisymmetric blast loading obtained by detonation of eccentrically placed explosive charges within the shell is presented. Some measurements of response of a small steel shell are also reported. No comparison is made between theory and experiment, because of difficulties encountered in computation from the theory. Simplifications which may allow computation and additional experiments are suggested. (auth)
