An investigation was made to increase the accuracy of the Q values of europium, previously estimated as Q(Eu/sup 151/) plus or minus + 1.2 b and Q(Eu/ sup 153/) plus or minus + 2.5 b. With a Perot-Fabry interferometer, the Eu II line 3519 LAMBDA was studied. Five hyperfine structure components of Eu/sup 151/ and four of Eu/sup 153/ wer e measured. The splitting factors were determined. An average value was obtained of Q/sub 151/ = O.95 plus or minus 0.1 b and Q/sub 153/ = 2-42 plus or minus 0.2 b. From the Coulomb excitation of Eu/sup 15 / 3>s, the values Q/sub 151/=O.93 plus or minus O.1 b and Q=2.36 plus or minus O.25 b were obtained, in good agreement with the optical values. The ratio of the A factors obtained in the present work is compared with the values obtained previously. (J.S.R.)
