NEW NEUTRON-DEFICIENT ISOTOPES OF TUNGSTEN (in Russian)
Neutron-deficient of isotopes of tungsten were produced by the spallation of bismuth or gold with 600-Mev protons in a synchrocyclotron. The bismuth target and added tungsten carrier were dissolved ina minumum amount of HNO/sub 3/ in the presence of HF. Tungstic acid was precipitated by means of HNO/ sub 3/, and was dissolved in NH/sub 4/OH. Iron hydroxide was precipitated with NH/sub 4/OH, and Bi and Mo were precipitated as sulfides. Nb was extracted by chloroform from an ammoniacal solution, and tungstic acid was precipitated from the aqueous phase. These operations were performed 2 to 3 times. The tantalum daughter was separated from the tungsten fraction by adding tantalum carrier, and precipitating tantalum hydroxide with NH/sub 4/OH. The hydroxide was dissolved in a mixture of H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/ and HF. The tantalum was extracted with cyclohexanone, and backextracted with a solution of ammonium oxalate and boric acid. The gamma spectra of the tungsten fraction and of the he tantalum daughter are given. An activity with a half life of 1.5 hours is tentatively assigned to W/sup 175/. Rhenium was separated from tungsten by extraction with methylethylketone in order to determine the conversion electron spectrum of the tungsten fraction. (TTT)
