Production of $sup 17$O and $sup 18$O by means of the hot CNO tri-cycle

Journal Article · · Astrophys. J., Lett., v. 201, no. 1, pp. L45-L48

High-temperature (Tgreater than or equal to10$sup 8$ K) CNO cycle burning is studied. An overabundance of both $sup 17$O and $sup 18$O is found after times of approximately 10$sup 2$ seconds. For temperatures of 150 and 200 million degrees the $sup 18$O abundance is much larger than the $sup 17$O abundance after burning times of about 10$sup 3$ seconds. Known uncertainties in the nuclear reaction rates do not alter the conclusions. (AIP)
