IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO NUCLEAR REACTOR ARRANGEMENTS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4108335
A gas-cooled, graphite-moderated reactor design is described which prevents storage of energy in the core by means of self-annealing. This self- annealing is accomplished by bleeding off a portion of the outgoing hot gas coolant before it reaches the heat exchanger and reintroducing it into the reactor by way of the control rod holes and/or Wigner gaps, In this way, the minimum temperature of the core is maintained above that at which selfannealing occurs.
