PHOTONEUTRON CROSS SECTIONS FOR Pb, Ta, AND Be MEASURED BY USE OF PHOTONS FROM POSITRON ANNIHILATION IN FLIGHT

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4107938
A 22-Mev electron accelerator was used in a facility to produce nearly monoenergetic photons at 1O to l7 Mev. The photoas were produced from the annihilation in flight of positrons. The positrons were created at the end of the first section of the accelerator by irradiation of a thick tantalum target with 10-Mev electrons and were then accelerated in the second section. cross sections for photoneutron yields from lead, tantalum, and beryllium were measured and are compared with those obtained by other methods.
