A semiempirical formula for interstellar birefringence

A formula for the wavelength dependence of interstellar birefringence is found by a semiempirical technique. This formula should facilitate the reduction and interpretation of observations of interstellar circular polarization, in the same manner in which Serkowski's formula is useful for linear polarization.
