VOLUMETRIC DETERMINATION OF URANIUM IN THE PRESENCE OF HIGH CONCENTRATIONS OF IRON

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4107112
Results are given of an investigation conducted to develop a more accurate proeedure for determining small amounts of uranium in the presence of large amounts of iron in materials such as shale or black sands. Results indicated that by use of double precipitation of ursnium tetrafluoride from reduced acid solutions, concentrations as low as 0.1 to 0.2 mg of uranium per 100 ml solution could be quantitatively separated, provided a suitable carrier is present and ammonium chloride is added to prevent peptization. Uranium was determined by titration with ceric sulfate. (J.R.D.)
