THE ROLE OF NUCLEAR REACTORS IN UNIVERSITY RESEARCH PROGRAMS

Results of a study to determine the extent to which research reactors are being used at educational institutions in the United States and Canada are presented. Operational problems associated with these reactors are examined and their effects on technical progress are discussed. Design specifications and experimental facilities are discussed for reactors located at the following institutions: Buffalo University. Connell University, Georgia Tech., McMaster University, MIT, Michigan University, N. C. State College, Pennsylvania State University, Texas A & M, Virginia University, and Washington State College. An operating budget for a typical pool type reactor is included. (J.R.D.)
